About Dr. Michael Sanders (he/him/his)

Dr. Michael Sanders is a veterinarian deeply committed to animal welfare. He is a UConn graduate, earning both his BS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and MS in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology, and was named a UConn University Scholar. He earned his DVM from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he also received a World Animal Care Foundation Award, which is awarded to the fourth-year veterinary student who demonstrates the highest understanding and appreciation of the human-animal bond. He has pursued wildlife veterinary medicine as a volunteer at places such as Tufts Wildlife Clinic (North Grafton, MA) and New England Wildlife Center (Weymouth, MA), and with wildlife rehabilitationists in CT. He worked professionally as an emergency and critical care veterinarian, gaining experience treating a multitude of critical and complex cases involving primarily cats and dogs. In addition to being a life-long learner, he loves to teach. During his time before earning his DVM, he worked as a long-term substitute high school biology teacher, a marine biology and freediving instructor in the Florida Keys, a National Geographic Student Expeditions Trip Leader, and a teacher within the Mystic Aquarium education department. Later on he taught Comparative Anatomy and Physiology and Ecology as an adjunct professor at Roger Williams University. Dr. Sanders earned a CCAT (Certified Companion Animal Rehabilitation Therapist) certification from North Carolina State University and established PetPRT. Veterinary physical rehabilitation therapy resonates with his passions as an animal advocate, educator, healer, and enthusiast of exercise physiology and animal movement. His practice of veterinary medicine is characterized as compassionate, thorough and evidence-based.
